In Gratitude This Thanksgiving

GratitudeIn honor of Thanksgiving, I wanted to write about the many people and happenings that are in my life for whom I’m truly grateful. My sister started a tradition of going around the Thanksgiving table and each person gets to say what they are most grateful for at that moment. I can see that it has a profound on her boys, and I love that she created that tradition for her entire family, including me.  I am so grateful for the following people and happenings, in no particular order:

  •  My sweetheart– I am so grateful to Dion, my partner of seven years. It feels like his love has centered me and helped me become strong in places I knew were weak and others where I wasn’t aware I had so much more learn. His is the kind of love that doesn’t try to confine or name me but just lets me be who I am  – each day. He’s fun, smart, so so so loving, the consummate host, and fearless.  He has taught me how to do my best in everything and how the concept of “how you do anything is how you do everything” plays out in real life. I have so upped my game. And even when he doesn’t understand me, he just loves me. What a gift he is to me.
  • Mom and Dad – I know that I have been blessed with parents who provided me with a stable home life; solid examples of marriage, deep commitment, and love of family; a deep sense of being loved, and a lot of room to grow. I am so truly grateful that these two marvelous people are my parents. Each of them has such a wicked, fun sense of humor and are a lot of fun to be around. Thankfully they are generous to come out each year a few times and I get to spend more time with them than you’d think for people who live on opposite coasts can.
  • My sister – My sister and I fought like cats and dogs, as all sisters do, when growing up but also played a lot together. In fact, my sister, Amber, and my brother, Keith, and I had a lot of fun together.  But it wasn’t till she joined me in Europe the summer after her senior year in high school when, while traveling, we had a screaming mimi fight in the Amsterdam train station that we finally let it all out- and got over it. Now, we live 20 miles from each other and see each other and speak often. I know my sister is always in my corner, giving us a deep bond. She also has provided me with examples about how to not worry so much about things I can’t control and how to be so giving.  I still have a long way to go in both of those regards but thankfully I have Amber right by my side, to keep showing me how it’s done.
  • Aunt Ruth and Aunt Therese – Aunts, one on each side, with whom I’m particularly close. Each one so clearly loves me and I really love them too. They have given me lots of insights to each of my parents and they have shown me their love and wisdom about life, our family, and how to be in the world, which helped expand my vision of the world.  They are both very much in my heart.
  • My brother and all my cousins – In addition to my brother and my sister, I have 14 first cousins on my Dad’s side and 10 cousins on my Mom’s side. And I have more first cousins once removed, second cousins, second cousins once removed, and so on that I can count. Thanks to my parent’s, especially my Mom’s, love of family, I know them and have spent a lot of time with most of them. I now get together with a whole passel of them every year over the 4th of July and I love strengthening our bond each year and with their children. I cherish our time together and wouldn’t miss it for the world.
  • My nephews – I have five nephews, aged 14, 13, 12, almost 11, and 9.  They are each so different from each other and their brothers and it’s been my pleasure to see them grow into the people they are now. It’s been so fun and I love each of them so much. I look forward to many more years and lots of discovery about who they really are, when they’re on their own in just a few short years.
  • My business coach– I worked with Christine Kane this year, as I mentioned previously. I have enjoyed all of my time with her and she has helped me with my business and strategies but also my mindset. So much has changed over the past year that I can hardly believe so much has healed in one short year. I am so grateful for the time we’ve had and that I got to spend such quality time with someone as talented and loving as Christine.
  • My Gold Mastermind group – In addition to working with Christine this past year, I’ve been able to work with 36 amazing other entrepreneurs from all over the US, and the world.  I’ve learned from each of them and seeing their forward movement with their businesses and their own mindsets. It’s a testament to Christine, all of the quality people she attracts and that I’ve been able to mastermind with each of them has been a big part of my growth this year. And a special shout out to my accountability partner, Lana– thanks for holding my hand!
  • My own home – I bought my first home this year. I was a bit late to the home owning tribe due to a variety of circumstances but it’s lovely to be here. I worked with Dion for well over a year to find the perfect place and when the first two places didn’t work out, I realize now that it’s because this place was waiting for us. I have my own office and space to meditate and to work out. I am so grateful to be able to experience this sense of haven and of peacefulness.
  • My problems – I’m sure this seems corny but it feels like all of my “problems” have led me to this place and the sense of spiritual awakening I feel.  And so I’m truly grateful for each one of them and this path that has lead me here, to this moment.

We’re having 15 people over for Thanksgiving and I can’t wait. My cousin and his family are driving in from Kentucky and my brother-in-law’s extended family is also going to come over. We’re going to have ham and deep fried turkey and all of the traditional side dishes. I’m going to experiment with mulled wine this year. And I look forward to hearing what each of my extended family feels grateful for this year and that I get to be surrounded by such loving friends. I am truly grateful.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
